I know it’s only February 6th, but …… have you checked those KPIs?
It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day details and overlook the importance of regularly reviewing our KPIs. This can lead to a situation where, before you know it, the first quarter is over, and you’re scrambling to catch up.
I advise leadership teams to create a simple dashboard with ten or fewer KPIs directly tied to their budget/strategic goals. This approach allows for a quick KPI report-out every month and keeps you on track throughout the year. When done right, some of this info can be pulled weekly for real-time assessments.
Here are a few generic sample KPIs to consider. Remember, you will have some KPIs specific to your 2025 strategic planning.
· Total patient encounters
· Total surgical evaluations (cataract, LASIK)
· Revenue per encounter
· Payroll/staffing
· Referring provider outreach goals
Compare these KPIs to your budget and then analyze discrepancies:
· Is there a budget win, or miss?
· Do you know the cause for the discrepancy (positive or negative)?
· If a budget win, are you expecting a decrease in the upcoming months?
· If budget was missed, was a provider unexpectedly out of the office,
or did bad weather impact volume or outreach goals?
Maintaining a clear focus on key performance indicators ensures your team is aligned with your strategic objectives and can make informed decisions in real-time.
Have you checked your KPIs recently? Keep your eye on the prize and make 2025 an exceptional year!
